Library Materials
Books: The Architecture and Landscape Architecture Library collection has over 13,000 books, which are organized according to the Library of Congress Classification System. Reference books and folios (oversized books) are shelved separately from the regular collection.
Periodicals: The periodical collection includes 60 current subscriptions. Although the periodicals are classified by the Dewey Decimal System, they are shelved alphabetically by title. The most recent issues of each current subscription are located in the periodical display. Journal volumes prior to 1975 are shelved in an off-campus storage facility, and can be requested online.
Several periodical indexes are available in print, mainly the Architectural Publications Index, Architectural Index, and an older edition of the Avery Index to Architectural Periodicals.
Microforms: Some periodical volumes are available only on microfiche, which is indicated in the online catalog. All microfiche, readers, and printers are located in the lower level of the Main Library.
Slides and Videos/DVDs: The Arch/LA Library has more than 38,000 individual slides classified by a system devised by the Department of Architecture and Landscape Architecture. For help in locating individual slides, inquire at the desk or consult the slide guide sheet. Slide sets and videos/DVDs are organized according to the Library of Congress Classification System. More than 200 videos/DVDs are available.
AV Equipment: Slide carousels, a Caramate slide viewer, and a TV/VCR with headphones are available in the Architecture and Landscape Architecture Library.
Reserves: Materials placed on reserve by faculty are shelved behind the circulation desk and have limited loan periods. Reserves are listed in the online catalog, as well as in a 3-ring binder at the desk.
Design Theses (5th year projects): Architecture and Landscape Architecture student thesis projects are shelved within the regular collection by year and author’s last name.
Electronic Journals and Databases: Patrons may access electronic journals and databases from the NDSU Libraries website. The Libraries has access to the following architecture databases: Art Full Text, Art Index Retrospective, and the Avery Index to Architectural Periodicals. The Libraries also has online access to product, manufacturer, and supplier information via Sweets Network and ThomasNet.
