Library Materials

The Health Sciences Library collection has over 24,000 books, periodicals and microfiche items.

Books:  The books are arranged by Library of Congress call numbers and are located in the main area of the library.

Periodicals:  The periodicals are arranged by Dewy Decimal call numbers and are located in the Walgreen Library Reading Room.   Check the online catalog to determine which journals are located at the Health Sciences Library.  Issues marked “Annex” in the catalog are available to NDSU faculty, staff and students through Pull Service.

Microfiche:  Some older periodicals are available only on microfiche.  These are indicated in the online catalog and are located in the main area of the Health Sciences Library.  Paper copies of articles can be made using the microfiche reader/printer.  Cost is $.10 per page and the coin-op accepts dimes only.

Reference:  The reference collection is located next to the circulation desk and is for in-library use only.

Reserves:  Items placed on reserve by faculty are shelved behind the circulation desk and have limited loan periods.  These reserves are listed as “closed reserves” in the online catalog.  There is also a section of reserves called “open reserves” and these mainly consist of books that are used by the students for reference purposes.  These items do not circulate and are for in-library use only.

Theses:  Health Sciences Theses are shelved separately and are located in the main area of the library.  They are shelved by year and then alphabetically by the author’s last name.

Electronic Journals and Databases:   Many journal articles are now available with PDF/HTML downloads from the NDSU Libraries website.

Interlibrary Loan Services

Items not owned by the NDSU Libraries may be obtained through interlibrary loan.  Requests can be submitted using a written or online request form.  Ask library staff for assistance.  Materials must be picked up at the Interlibrary Loan office in the Main Library.

Library users have access to a photocopier, which is located in the main area of the library.  Photocopies can be paid for by using Bison Bucks or cash.  The coin-op accepts $1 and $5 bills, quarters, dimes and nickels.  Cost is $.10 per page.

AV Equipment:  A TV with a VCR/DVD player is available for use in the library.
