Print Resources

The NDSU online catalog is used to locate books, media, archival materials, government documents and periodicals in the Library. It is available at http://catalog.library.ndsu.edu/.  To find resources at other libraries in the area, use the search box in the top left corner of the libraries website.  Select “Online Catalog” then “regional Libraries” or “Tri-College” and input your search terms.

To locate items in the Main Library, a listing of each type of material is available at the Reference Desk. Please ask if you need assistance. In general, the Library of Congress system is used for books, the Dewey Decimal system is used for periodicals, and the SuDocs system is used for government documents.

To check out library materials you must have your NDSU ID with you. Your NDSU ID functions as your library card.

Periodicals (Print, Microform & Electronic)

Journals and magazines are available in a variety of formats and may be located in different areas within the Library. Because of space considerations, some periodicals are housed off campus in our Annex. A step-by-step guide to finding a specific article may be viewed at http://library.ndsu.edu/find/databases/find-your-article/.

Other Electronic Resources

The Library home page contains a tremendous amount of information about the services, databases, periodicals and other materials that are available electronically. Some of these resources are not available off campus and others require authentication. Use the Library Log In authentication to access the electronic journals and databases that are licensed for remote access.

Periodicals provided in electronic format can be identified and accessed through the E-Journals page. Locating an e-journal can be done by searching for a specific journal title or by title browsing. Access this page at http://library.ndsu/find/electronic-journals.

Databases can be located by subject or title. For direct access, go to http://library.ndsu.edu/library-funded-databases/. Most databases provide Help screens for users, and help is also available from your Subject Librarian or the staff at the Reference Desk.

Interlibrary Loan

To obtain items that NDSU does not own, Interlibrary Loan service is available. You may call with questions (231-8885) or check the web page at http://library.ndsu.edu/documentdelivery/.

Document Delivery Service
The NDSU Libraries Document Delivery Service is a fee-based service that eliminates the more mundane aspects of retrieving information.  Use of the service is offered to NDSU faculty, staff, and graduate students only.  The Service is managed by, and located in, the Interlibrary Loan Office in the Main Library.  Telephone 231-8885 for information. Please see the document delivery frequently asked questions page for more information.

Learn more about the archival collections, the University Archives, services and staff at http://library.ndsu.edu/archives/.

The Germans from Russia Heritage Collection was established to gather and preserve publications, photographs, maps, audio-visual materials, oral histories, and other materials documenting the history and culture of the Germans from Russia in North Dakota and the Northern Plains. The Shott Collection, located in the lobby area of the Main Library and emphasizing award-winning titles, contains recreational books and audio books for circulation. Available titles are in the ODIN Catalog.

Tri-College University

NDSU, Minnesota State University Moorhead, and Concordia provide cooperative library services to the campuses. Once your ID card is validated at NDSU, you may use it at any Tri-College library. The catalogs for Concordia and MSUM libraries are similar to ODIN and can be found at http://library.ndsu.edu/other-library-catalogs/. You may also obtain materials from the other Tri-College Libraries through Interlibrary Loan.

The Tri-College University Film and Video Library is a collaborative resource for instructional activities at NDSU, Concordia College, and Minnesota State University Moorhead. The collection includes films, videotapes and laser discs requested by faculty from the three campuses.  The combined resources will be available through December, 2009.  In 2010 the items will be divided among the three campus libraries.
