Soil Surveys and Soil maps

  • U.S. County Soil Survey maps: Detailed reports with maps and soil descriptions for most counties in the U.S. Prepared by the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) of the USDA. Those published since 1962 are in the NDSU government document section and are arranged by state name(DOCUMENT A 57.38:….) Older surveys arranged by year (DOCUMENT A57.38:942…).
  • The major soils of North Dakota, (REFERENCE and stacks S99 .E4 no. 472) published by North Dakota. Agricultural Experiment Station. State-wide map of major soil series in the state, with accompanying text.
  • Soil survey report; county general soil maps, North Dakota, (REFERENCE and stacks S99 .E4 no. 473) Agricultural Experiment Station, general descriptions of North Dakota county soils series.
  • Minnesota Soil Atlas. (S77 .E227…) General soils maps with descriptions for the state of Minnesota. Eight sheets cover the entire state and each has accompanying text: Bemidji, Duluth, Stillwater, St.Cloud, Roseau, International Falls-Two Harbors, Brainerd, Hibbing, St. Paul.
  • National soil survey handbook. (DOCUMENT A 57.6/2:SO 3/5) U.S.D.A. Soil Conservation Service, 1993-present. The handbook provides guidelines and procedures for the U.S. soil surveys. The online version of the Handbook with current revisions and updates is also available for viewing and downloading.
  • Soil map of the world (FOLIO G 3201 .J3 s5000 .F6) Published by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations. 19 col. maps (110 x 110 cm.) with accompanying text. Maps included are: I. Legend.–II. North America.–III. Mexico and Central America.–IV. South America.–V. Europe–VI. Africa.–VII. South Asia.–VIII. North and Central Asia.–IX. Southeast Asia.–X. Australasia. A re-editied digitized version is available for purchase on CD-Rom from FAO
  • Soil Taxonomy : a basic system of soil classification for making and interpreting soil surveys( DOCUMENT A 1.76:436 ) published by the U.S. Soil Survey Division, USDA as the Agriculture handbook no. 436 in 1975. Keys to Soil Taxonomy, by NRCS, is comprised of a portion of Soil Taxonomy providing the taxonomic keys necessary for the classification of soils. This online site includes revisions and changes from those originally published in Soil Taxonomy.
