New German-Russian foodways videotape available
February 1, 2002
"Recipes from Grandma's Kitchen: Germans from Russia Food
Traditions & Recipes", Volume 1, is a new videotape now available. The videotape
was produced by the Germans from Russia Cultural Preservation Foundation and the Germans from Russia Heritage Collection,
NDSU Libraries, Fargo (library.ndsu.edu/grhc).
Because of the popularity of Prairie Public Television's documentary, "Schmeckfest: Food Traditions of the Germans from Russia",
the "Recipes from Grandma's Kitchen" video series has been
produced.
Traditional foods, savory recipes, and folk memories are important
in the history and culture of the Germans from Russia community. "Recipes
from Grandma's Kitchen" provides step-by-step detailed cooking and ingredients. There are vignettes of culinary memories that feed
the soul and warm the heart.
Visit the kitchens and reminisce with: Millie Doll Hauck, Richardton,
