I am looking for any information regarding my grandmother and great...grandparents that lived in Karamurat, Romania. Surnames are Plotzki and Ruscheinski. This site is the first site where I have run across these surnames.

My maternal grandmother, Elizabeth Plotzki, was born 12/27/1894 in Krasna, Bessarabia, Russia; however the family relocated to Caramurat, Romamania when she was a child. When she was 16 she left Romania in 1910 with her brother Joe and came to ND, USA where she later married Heronimus Weiler.

Elizabeth's father's name is Christian Plotzki, born in 1852; his father was Jacob Plotzki. Her mother's maiden name is Marian Buscheninski, born in 1858; her father's name is Joseph Ruscheinski. Other siblings include Daphelia, Egidius, Joseph, Emilia, Isidor, Celasbeo, and Basilius.

I maybe be contacted at schafer_diane@yahoo.com .
Thank you,
Diane

My husband was born in Mandan, North Dakota. His father immagrated from Russia as a baby and his mother was born in North Dakota, but her father and mother came from Russia. I am trying to find out more about his mother's father, George Singer, who was born 28 Jun 1866 in Huffenstahl, South, Russia. I'm hoping someone on this site can help me.

My heritage came through Russia as well. It must have been a long and hard process of immigrating to America.

My "Germans from Russia" family settled in KS in the Hays area. Just wanted you to know that you've put together a neat resource for those of us who are trying to learn a little bit more about the history and culture of our ancestors. Thanks.

Two of my aunts were Anne and Lydia (Kapitz)Diede. They were early school teachers in Hebron and married brothers Dave and Gotlieb Diede. I was thrilled to see them mentioned in one of Pauline Diedes' stories.
The story of the German Russians is a fascinating story that needs to be told. Thanks for this site that helps in that endeavor.

My ancestors were Germans from Russia. On my father's side the name was WEDEL, and on my mother's side the names were Lorenz and Duerksen. Both families lived in the plain states after immigrating and then moved on to California...some to Escondido and then to Shafter. I have a passport from Russia for one of them. I have some photos I could send...one shows a large group of people holding a sign that says: "40000 MK". I have thought the MK was for the Molotschna Colony. Our family food heritage was 'vereniki'. If you have a way for me to attach the photos, let me know. I have also seen some records that say the head of household was from Saratov, Russia: looking under the name Lorenz -- it lists my great-grandparents Jacob and Lena, my grandmother Ruth and her siblings: http://files.usgwarchives.net/ne/lancaster/census/1920/germans8.txt.
