Cheese
From Chris Burkart
The name 'schmeer case' doesn't ring a bell, however
my guess would be that farm people made their own version of a runny
cheese that smelled a lot like dirty socks. Mom would hang it on
the clothes line until it 'cured' and not one bird ever came to
sit on that line until she took it off. A very soft brie reminds
me of her cheese.
From Louise Norton
Sounds close, Mom made hers in a large crock, which
she stored in the barn...you could not smell it there. Sure it was
with the fresh hay but in the barn none the less. It was a cured
cottage cheese so might be very close to what your mother made...no
bird or self respecting mouse would have come near mom's crock.
