Rev. Augustine Fox, O.S.B., former Pastor of SS. Peter & Paul
Church, Strasburg, died in St. Joseph’s Hospital, Dickinson,
on Saturday, November 8. Father Augustine had entered the hospital
Tuesday, November 4, suffering from embolism in his right leg.
Father Augustine was born April 7, 1875, in Weinsheim, Bezirk Pruem,
Trier, Germany. He completed his early education at Conception Abbey,
Conception, Missouri. He completed his Theological Training at Einsiedeln
Abbey, Einsiedeln, Switzerland, and was ordained by the Bishop of
Regensbirg, Germany for Assumption Abbey, August 10, 1901.
After his ordination Father Augustine was stationed at Devils Lake
until 1912. From 1912 until 1927, Father Augustine worked unsparingly
throughout North Dakota. In 1927 he was named pastor of SS. Peter
& Paul Church, Strasburg where he served until March, 1947.
Because of failing health he retired from active service, and returned
to Assumption Abbey, where he has lived since that date.
Father Augustine was buried November 12 in the Monastery Cemetery
following a Solemn Requiem Mass celebrated by the Very Rev. Peter
Fehrenbach, O.S.B., Prier of Assumption Abbey. The funeral sermon
was preached by the Rev. Thomas Jundt, O.S.B.
