Clergy and Music Directors

Chronological List of Clergy and Music Directors at St. Paul’s, 1803-1937

Erik Amburger, in the opening lines of the chapter “die Pastoren” in his Geschichte des Protestantismus in Russland, pays tribute to the pastors in the diaspora (147.)  He points out that, for the congregation in the diaspora, the pastor’s personality is of critical significance, much more so than is the case in a church in the German homeland.  He goes on to say that the pastor is not only preacher and administrator of the sacraments, comforter and advisor, teacher and tutor, but also leader and role model in how to deal with many practical life issues, as well as representative for his congregation vis-à-vis government entities.
