Theodore Lang’s Favorite Songs

At Theodore Lang’s 90th birthday party held at the Med-Center Golden Manor, Steele, North Dakota, October 14, 2006, these songs were sung at a sing-a-long. These were some of Theodore Lang’s favorite songs.

Bernadine Lang Kuhn, daughter of Theodore Lang, Owatonna, Minnesota

Red Wing

There once was an Indian Maid,
A shy little Indian Maid,
Who sang a lay, a love song gay
As o’er the plain she’d while the time away;
She loved a warrior bold, this shy little maid of old,
But blithe and gay he rode one day
To battle far away.

Now the moon shines tonight on pretty Red Wing,
The breezes sighing, the night birds crying;
While far beneath the stars her brave is sleeping,
Poor Red Wing weeping her heart away.

She watched through the day and night,
She kept the campfire bright
While under the sky each night she would lie
And dream about his coming by and by;
But when the braves returned,
The heart of Red Wing yearned,
For brave one day her warrior gay
Fell bravely in the fray.

Blue Skirt Waltz
(Mitchell Parish and Vaclav Blaha)

I wandered alone one night
‘til I heard an orchestra play
I met you where lights were bright
And people were carefree and gay.
You were the beautiful lady in blue,
I was in heaven just waltzing with you,
You filled me with strange delight
Then softly you stole away.

I dream of that night with you,
Lady when we first met.
We danced in a world of blue
How can my heart forget.
Blue were the skies and blue were your eyes
Just like the blue skirt you wore.
Come back, blue lady come back.
Don’t be blue anymore.

Jesus Loves Me

Jesus loves me! This I know,
For the Bible tells me so.
Little ones to Him belong;
They are weak but He is strong.

Yes, Jesus loves me!
Yes, Jesus loves me!
Yes, Jesus loves me!
The Bible tells me so.

Jesus loves me! Loves me still,
‘tho I’m very weak and ill,
That I might from sin be free,
Bled and died upon the tree.

Yes, Jesus loves me!
Yes, Jesus loves me!
Yes, Jesus love me!
The Bible tells me so.

Jesus loves me! He who died
Heaven’s gate to open wide;
He will wash away my sin,
Let his little child come in.

Yes, Jesus loves me!
Yes, Jesus loves me!
Yes, Jesus loves me!
The Bible tells me so.

Jesus loves me! He will stay
Close beside me all the way.
Thou hast bled and died for me,
I will henceforth live for Thee.
Jesus loves me, this I know,
Though my hair is white as snow.
Though my sight is growing dim
Still He bids me trust in Him.

Yes, Jesus loves me!
Yes, Jesus loves me!
Yes, Jesus loves me!
The Bible tells me so.

Though my steps are oh, so slow,
With my hand in His I’ll go.
On through life, let come what may,
He’ll be there to lead the way.

Yes, Jesus loves me!
Yes, Jesus loves me!
Yes, Jesus loves me!
The Bible tells me so.

Though I am no longer young,
I have much which He’s begun.
Let me serve Christ with a smile,
Go with other’s the extra mile.

Yes, Jesus loves me!
Yes, Jesus loves me!
Yes, Jesus loves me!
The Bible tells me so.
