Biography Anton G. Schatz, son of Gabriel and Benedicta (Wangler) Schatz was born July 29, 1921, in Logan County. Anton Attended a rural school near the St. Boniface Church completing the eighth grade. He spent two years with the 766th Co. of the Civilian Conservation Corps at Kramer, ND. He learned blacksmithing, diesel mechanics, and worked as a heavy equipment operator, moving buildings, drilling wells, building roads and dams. On November 5, 1945 Tony was united in marriage to Anna Feist and farmed on the family farm near St. Boniface. Moving to a farm west of Tappen in 1947 he farmed for two years until returning to the family farm. He retired from farming in 1979 and moved to Napoleon, ND. He then worked for Kuhn Manufacturing, Logan County, and planted trees for ASCS for 13 years. He was also a land assessor, a member of the School Board, a church trustee, and on the Cemetery Board. Tony’s enjoyment and appreciation with antiques led him to become Logan County Museum’s grounds keeper, tour guide, and curator. Tony enjoyed woodworking, his family and friends, always willing to lend a helping hand.

Anton is survived by his wife, Anna, five daughters, Benedicta (Sebastion) Aberle, Kintyre, ND, Frances Sauvageau, Bismarck ND, Teresa (John) Marquart, McKenzie, ND, Cecelia (Oscar) Nyland, Vancouver, WA, Margaret Schatz, Vancouver, WA; four sons, Gabriel (Charlene) Schatz, Vall, OR, Larry (Cheryl) Schatz, Lino Lakes, MN, Markus (Judith) Schatz, Olney, MT, John (Irene) Schatz, Steele, ND; five brothers, Andrew (Francis) Schatz, Haward, CA, Clemence (Minnie) Schatz, Dickinson, ND, Joseph Schatz, Dickingson, ND, Karl (Carol) Schatz, Kettle River, MN, Dan Schatz, Sterling, ND; one sister-in-law, Laurene Schatz, Concord, CA; twenty nine grandchildren, and twelve great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Helen, two brothers, Frank and Alois, one sister, Katherine.
