Edward and Christina Munsch Berreth Family Photographs, 2011.41
Page one: Photographs 2011.41.001- 2011.41.036.
Photographs courtesy of Dale Berreth, Fargo, North Dakota; and Carol (Berreth) Martel, Eureka, South Dakota.
Christina (Munsch) Berreth was Carol Martel’s grandmother and kept records and scrapbooks of her family members, however, several of these photographs remain unidentified. On 2 July 2012, Gertrude Anderson of Mesa, Arizona, who is a descendant of the Munsch family line, visited the GRHC, and identified the subjects of many photographs in this collection.
Christina Berreth’s father, Andreas Munsch, was born on 25 February 1843 in Neu Danzig, Russia. He married his first wife, Louisa Berreth (b. 7 October 1846 in Worms, Russia) on 1 October 1865 in Worms, Russia. They came to the United States on 23 December 1884. Louisa died on 4 January 1889 in Zeeland, ND. Andreas then married Charlotta Elizabeth Moser in 1889. They gave birth to three children, one of them Christina Munsch, Carol’s grandmother, was born 8 February 1890 in Campbell County, SD and died 18 September 1979 in Eureka, SD.
The majority of these photographs were taken in the United States, and many of them have South Dakota town names, Springfield, OH, or Buffalo, NY, written on them.
Related family names: Munsch, Berreth, Feuhrer, Bier, Moser, Wacker.
Related place names: Odessa, Russia; Worms, Russia; Eureka, SD; Artas, SD; Campbell Co., SD; Zeeland, ND.
