Dakota Lithographs and Engravings is the Institute's most recent addition to Digital Horizons. Although a small collection preserved at the Institute, there are some great images that go back to Dakota territorial days and early statehood. It includes images published in Harper's Weekly, Frank Leslie's Illustrated Newspaper, and Northwest Magazine to name a few. Also included are the color lithographs documenting the transcontinental railroad survey that crossed what is now North Dakota in 1853.
The introduction page is also a new enhancement to the Institute's website featuring its growing number of digital collections being made available for public use. Use the links in the left column to go to the introduction page of our other collections in Digital Horizons. The right column provides a number of search options including term, browse or simply click on several of the pre-done topical searches .
Dakota Lithographs and Engravings also features high resolution copies for all the images. This allows the user to view portions of the images at an extremely detailed level. Simply click on a portion of the image to zoom in, then use the directional arrows on the top to move about the image.
We invite our users to check out the Dakota Lithographs and Engravings images as well as the others being offered by the Institute for Regional Studies & University Archives.
