Institute on list for Family Tree Magazine's 2011 Best State Websites

BestStateWebsites2011For a second year in a row, Family Tree Magazine, has named the NDSU Institute for Regional Studies website the best North Dakota website for doing genealogical and family history research in the state. In its article “2011 Best State Websites” in the December issue it states “In selecting this year's best state websites for genealogy, we were on the lookout for databases where you can look for a relative's name.

Obituary Database expanded

The Fargo Forum Obituary Database http://library.ndsu.edu/db/obituary/ has now been reloaded with 706 new entries from the Daily Argus newspaper for the dates September 17, 1888 to September 23, 1889, and March 9 1891 to August 27, 1891.  This now makes the database complete from March 1891 to January 1911 and November 1, 1982 to December 31, 1995.  The database now has a total of 77,449 entries.  The Institute for Regional Studies would like to thank Elaine Linke, of Fargo, for her volunteer time spent extracting these ob

Cal Olson Photograph Collection Featured in Forum Article

The Cal Olson Photograph Collection was featured in the Sunday, September 25 issue of The Forum. Olson was a long-time photographer with the Forum newspaper. In 2009 the family donated his extensive negative collection to the NDSU Institute for Regional Studies, totaling over 16,000 items. The images document a broad segment of his photographic work for the Forum as well as private work.
