Title: Significant Natural Resource Issues for the Next Five to Twenty Years

Description: The authors address the topic of the formulations and creation of agricultural and resource policy and it's projected future over the course of the next 20 years, 1983-2003. The creation of formulating realistic assessments of future developments is an arduous one. The consideration of the world market undermine useful tools for the forecasting of future, local events. The purpose of this article was two-fold. First, to briefly give description to a research project for the purpose of the identification of emerging natural resource issues and, secondly, to present the results of said research are were key to the future of North Dakota. Figures 1 and 2 present those issues ranked by Natural Resource Experts for the 13 Rocky Mountain and Great Plains states (figure 1) and for the Dakotas and Nebraska list (figure 2). These findings assist federal agencies, especially the U.S. Geological Survey, in the setting of their long range forecasts, plans and goals, and should ultimately lead to an amelioration of these issues.
