dc.description Mollisols are grassland soils. these are among the most productive soils in the world. The dominant process in Mollisol formation is the darkening of the soil by organic matter additions, which is referred to as melanization. Soil is added to by both those sources above and below the soil line. Climate, landscape position and parent material, including soil texture influence organic matter accumulation due to it's influence on drainage, botanical composition and productivity. There are differences between soil compositions of grass lands and forests. Several factors affect soil composition outcome. In this writing, the objective, the description of the study area, the methods and the results and subsequent discussion are given. Conversion of these soils into crop land may result in the eventual in the eventual erosion, depletion thereof and reduced future economic viability of such soils. It was deemed that more research was needed to best understand the soil-vegetation relationships impact on this soil type.
