Title: Influence of Plant Available Qater aat Seeding on Spring Wheat and Sunflower Prodution in North Dakota
Author: Delbert, E.J.; Goos, R.J.; Patterson, D.D.; Enz, J.W.; Ulmer, M.G.
Description: Having up to date information of the water content available at seeding time is necessary for making correct decisions concerning fallow or re-crop, range carrying capacity, hay production, saline sep control and participation in farm programs. In the northern Great Plains, rai and snow seldom provide enough water for crops. Stored soil water serves as the reservoir from which crops can draw upon during periods of limited precipitation. The article discussed presents the findings of a study to learn the effects of water available at planting time.t was discovered that 3 to 4 inches of stored water at seeding time is necessary for successful crop production in the northern Great Plains. Proper management of these resources is emphasized.
