dc.description The focus was to evaluate the capabilities of SFOM and BDDG for replacement protein supplements when compared SBOM in heifer backgrounding rations and to document the economics of feeding each supplement type. Feeding North Dakota protein by-products to backgrounded heifer calves on a pound of protein basis resulted in nearly equal gains among heifers fed either SBOM, BDDB or SFOM. When fed BDDG, the feed efficiency was improved slightly though the body weight gains were identical. The margin of improvement using BDDG were not significant.
