dc.description At this time of this article in 1988, North Dakota farmers and surrounding states relied on feeding cows corn in grain mixtures. Up to this point, using barley in lieu of corn had not been given much thought, This article presents a study on the evaluation of barley in the diets of lactating cattle and how it affected their milk yield and other related production responses. The method chosen was to analyze certain metabolites in blood and rumen, then correlating them to production criteria.
