Title: Wheat Disease Survey Results
Author: Nelson, D.R.; Werk, T.L.; Statler, G.D.; McMullen, M.P.
Description: In 1988, 223 fields in 35 counties in North Dakota were examined for wheat diseases. The data for each collected included date, county, legal description, wheat class, growth stage, diseases observed, disease incidence, disease diversity, highest leaf affected, rust reactions and, when possible, the variety, previous crop and the tillage method used. The growing season sampled was unusually hot and dry. Leaf spots and leaf rust were found in all classes of wheat sampled. Temperatures were too high and humidity levels too low for spore releases and subsequent infections. These warm and dry conditions favored wheat streak as it favored the reproduction and movement of the wheat curl mite.
