Title: Recent Changes and Future Trends For North Dakota's Economy
Author: Leistritz, F.L.; Coon, Randal C.
Description: North Dakota's economic base has grown from Z$2.6 billion in 1958 to $5.2 billion in 1987. The 1970's saw a rapid expansion primarily due to agricultural products. Energy increased in the 1980s. Rapid growth was followed by a steady decline in the state's total economic base. By being top heavy in agriculture and petroleum, this exposes the state to mostly external factors that can undermine prices of these products. the article recommends a furthered diversification of goods and services to buffer against market risks.
