Title: Irrigated Alfalfa Harvest Management In North Central North Dakota
Author: Hoag, Ben K.; Thompson, Curtis R.
Description: Alfalfa is the major source of forage for hay in North Dakota. It's harvested for hay yield is 2.8 billion tonnes from 1.58 million acres annually over the past 10 years, which is 61% of the total forage hay and 53% of the forage acres in North Dakota. The 3 cut management system yielded slightly less than did the 2 cut system average over alfalfa cutting heights. However, the 3 cut system produced a higher quality forage. The 3 cut system was the most consistent over a 4 year study. The 2 cut system may work best in a reduced management system.
