dc.description On site warehousing and overall practices and marketing practices of grains are a key component by North Dakota farmers. On site storage increases revenue as grain prices, federal government programs and harvest efficiency all are subject to change. Government farm programs is often contingent upon on-farm agricultural product storage and carryover stocks. When farm n numbers decrease and average farm sizes increase, their storage shows a continued growth pattern. With greater reserves on site, farmers are dedicating more labor time to determining grain quality control and the marketing process itself. This article estimates on-site farm grain storage capacity of North Dakota producers based upon data gathered in a survey that was conducted in the Fall of 1983. The mode of data gathering for survey reviewed was mailings. In 1983, there was an estimated 37,500 farms in North Dakota. The average adjusted permanent on site farm grain storage capacity per farm for the state was 35.063 bushels. Total permanent on farm site grain capacity for the state was an estimated ranged from 187 to 947.5 million bushels. Although the largest farms accounted for only 10% of the total farms, they accounted for 26% of total on farm site storage. Those less than 500 acres accounted for 34%, but less than 12% of the total state's on farm iste storage.
