Description: 'Leaf rust' of wheat, incited by the fungus Pucinnia recondita, is one of the most important diseases of wheat in North Dakota, especially when susceptible varieties are grown. This disease reduces crop yields. The disease in known to travel elsewhere in the US. It has the ability to mutate as it's parasitize at the very same time. These new strains of the wheat disease have forced farmers to plant different cultivars and/or to apply fungicides. Fields studies were conducted in 1986 to determine leaf rust severities in North Dakota. The article concludes with presentation of both the results and the subsequent discussion thereof.
