dc.description The damage to sunflower crops by the red-winged blackbird and other bird species can be severe. The development of new bird resistant varieties might be one solution. A series of field and aviary studies were conducted that inolved 2 experimental varieties, BRS-1 and NdC. In conjunction with these trials, a series of 5 laboratory experiments were conducted with seeds seeds from these 2 experimental varieties and 2 commercial oil seeds varieties. Each experiment is broken down for the reader with the experiments overall results and discussion given. The summary suggests that more research is needed to produce varieties of sunflower more repellant to birds.
