Title: Animal Biotechnology
Author: Redmer, D.A.; Reynolds, L.P.
Description: A simple overview of biotechnology with the emphasis on livestock is given. The authors make reference to NDSUs newly created undergraduate biotechnology program at that time. Then, certain examples of such study are cited. Prospects for the future in this arena are presented such as the betterment in the transfer of a biological gene into a already growing or even adult animal would allow for 'designing' animals with specific traits best suited to a particular, given situation. Gene mapping, cloning, the development of recombinant hormones and the development of subunit vaccines and diagnostics are other areas of importance given.
