Title: Credit as an Impediment to International Trade in North Dakota
Author: Leistritz, F. Larry; Gustafson, Cole R.; Baltezore, James F.
Description: North Dakota in the early 1990's was lacking diversity of sources of income. The state was 'top heavy' with one dominant source of income - agriculture. This could produce periods of economic slumps due to downturns in agriculture. Businesses found it difficult to compete with other US states and on the international scene due to lack of credit from lending institutions, logistics, trade barriers, structural barriers and political barriers. North Dakota banks had a lack of capital to make loans with.
