Title: Grasshopper Control Trials in Small Grains 1985 to 1989
Author: McBride, Dean K.
Description: At time of this writing, grasshopper infestations of North Dakota crops had increased dramatically due to drought, low overwintering, spring mortality and optimal conditions for late summer and Fall oviposition. As small grain crops are planted earlier and develop earlier, grasshopper infestations and the damage they bring to these quite severe. Two studies addressing grasshopper control trials are given consideration. These were wheat: hard red spring wheat and durum wheat. and barley from 1985 through 1989. Three registered insecticides and six unregistered insecticides were evaluated. These were applied aerially mixed with water. Lorsband 4E gave best results. Orthene 75S and Pydrin 2E gave similar results.
