dc.description A history of the presence of the weed, leafy spurge' dating back to 1909, is given. The North Dakota Agricultural Experiment Station began conducting research on this plant in the 1920's. Enhanced funding, cultural control, chemical control, biocontrol via insects and diseases, plant physiology and basic research and public awareness are touted as essential to the control of this weed. In 1990, it was deemed that chemicals were still the best option for the next 10 years. Long-term management methods via herbicides and insecticides was predicted to the standard way of addressing leafy spurge by the year 2000.
