Title: The Short Course Experience at the NDAC
Author: Danborn, David
Description: An overview of NDAC, North Dakota Agricultural Courses, short courses from 1900 to 1969 which were designed for working farmers with the off season in mind. The program began with emphasis being on agriculture and drills in parlimentary practice, writing, debating, essay writing, declamation. Later, topics concerning farm mechanics were added. The Great Depression ended in lieu of a 'Farmers and Homemakers Week' instead. In 1937, the program was revived modeled after a Danish School "Farm Folk School". WWII disrupted the NDAC again. But, it returned to it's focus shortly thereafter. In 1956, bankers stopped their support of the program by cutting scholarships. The last 'Short Courses' were taught at NDSU in 1969.
