Distance & Online Learning

Welcome! Are you taking a distance or continuing education course through NDSU from off-campus? If so, this page is for you. Faculty teaching off-campus NDSU courses might also find this information useful.

If you are a student taking distance or continuing education courses along with your on-campus courses, your library services remain the same as those for other on-campus students.

Access to Electronic Resources

Your Campus Connection ID/password is not the same as the login used by other campus systems, including the Libraries, for authentication. This authentication requires that you first set up a login and password through the Information Technology Services Enroll page at:  https://secure.ndsu.nodak.edu/services/. Be sure to select the Library and any other services you might need, such as Blackboard, in the Services section. This setup may not take effect immediately, so please allow up to 2 days for it to be established.

Once your electronic access is complete for the campus, you can access the Libraries services and databases that require authentication by using the Log In link located on the right side of the Libraries Home Page (http://library.ndsu.edu), underneath the banner.

Online Catalog

To identify books, government documents, videos and other materials owned by NDSU, use the NDSU Onlince Catalog link (http://catalog.library.ndsu.edu).

Other library catalogs, such as MSUM and Concordia, are available using the Other Library Catalogs link (http://library.ndsu.edu/other-library-catalogs) on the home page.

Databases

Electronic databases are typically indexes to publications. Databases available through the NDSU Libraries are listed by the name of the database in our Databases: A-Z list (http://library.ndsu.edu/library-funded-databases/), or by topic from the Subject Resources page (http://library.ndsu.edu/research-help/home/subject-librarians/).

Articles

Many databases enhance indexing with links to full text articles. If the database you are using does not provide the full text of the article you need, search the NDSU Library EJournal List on our home page to see if what you need is available through another electronic resource. NDSU provides over 5,000 journals in electronic format. Licensing may restrict access by remote users, so be sure to use the Log In on the Libraries home page so that you can access all that is available with authentication.

If the journal you need is not available electronically, please fill out an online Interlibrary Loan Request (http://library.ndsu.edu/documentdelivery/) and the article(s) will be sent to you. Indicate in the comments section that you are a distance student and ask the Interlibrary Loan Staff to make the articles available to you electronically when they receive them, or place them in the mail.

Articles from any NDSU collection will be copied for $1.00 per article plus 20 cents per page.

If you have questions for Interlibrary Loan, please call (701) 231-8885, in North Dakota 1-800-843-7358 and ask for Interlibrary Loan, or leave a message in the Comments section of their web page (http://library.ndsu.edu/documentdelivery/).
