The NDSU Libraries staff have come together to better articulate clear and compelling statements of purpose. Staff members collectively drafted and critiqued official messages that accurately convey who we are, what we value, and where we’re going. We developed new Mission, Vision and Tagline statements to summize our purpose.

Vision: NDSU Libraries: Growing a vibrant learning and research ecosystem by connecting to the local and global communities.
Tagline: Cultivating inquiry and curiosity
To further develop our direction and to give these statements some footing, we identified 5 core areas the Libraries can focus on to help fulfill our mission to the NDSU campus. The acronym "SPACE" was created to illustrate how we plan on getting there. To learn more about our plans for each area of focus, check the sections below for more information. As we move along the process, we will continually update this page.

Students are the focus of our services, spaces, and resources.
- Secure innovative and collaborative space for students to conduct research and study to enable them to excel in their programs and become lifelong learners.
- Donations or an endowment will provide more students with meaningful employment in a supportive, academic environment and help offset the cost of education while developing valuable workplace experience and promoting retention.
Partnerships cultivate relationships with individuals, departments, organizations, and businesses to advocate for and invest in mutual interests.

Collections are vital to supporting the teaching, learning, and research needs of NDSU and the greater community.

2012 Faculty Senate Funding Recommendations
Documents relating to Faculty Senate activity from 2012. Recognizing how critical Library resources are to NDSU's land-grant mission and the alarming rate of decline in funding, the Faculty Senate Library Committee presented their findings to the broader Faculty Senate body. In response, the Faculty Senate authored a resolution calling for, among other things, NDSU Administration to develop a strategy to bring the Libraries' holdings and database access to the average level of (parity with) NDSU's IPED peers. Below are two documents related to those efforts.
2007 Feasibility Study
As Libraries evolve their mission and services, the space and facility needs will also change. Recognizing the need to re-invent and modernize, the NDSU Libraries commissioned a feasability study in 2007 from the architecture firm MSR.
The Northern Plains Cultural Center
In 1996, a vision for a new cultural arts center at North Dakota State University was developed. The task force developed a two-part proposal.
The first phase describes the task force's consensus about the mission, guiding principles, practical applications, and physical nature of the facility.
The second phase of the proposal specifies in greater detail such aspects as site options, suggested floor plan, square footage, estimated costs, administrative structure, and funding sources.
The primary mission of the Northern Plains Cultural Center at NDSU is to collect, document, study, preserve, exhibit, and interpret materials associated with the diverse cultures of the northern plains. The Cultural Center, as it celebrates the contributions of many peoples to the common good, serves to expose the public to the cultural riches of this complex region.
