Essence of Healing: The Journey of American Indian Nurses shares the stories of fourteen northern Great Plains American Indian nurses as they answer their calling into the nursing profession. The screening will be held at the Century Theater in the Memorial Union.
The documentary gives viewers a closer look at the challenges each of these nurses has endured as well as their unique perspectives on healing and health. Each nurse will outline their particular journey to the nursing profession, as well as their personal struggles and motivations.
This remarkable documentary comes at a time when the nursing field is growing in terms of demand. By 2030, the United States will be short over 900,000 nurses, and the greatest deficit will be in the western states. American Indian nurses stress that this career is one in which Native Americans have many unique values and perspectives to offer.
