Located near the entrance to the NDSU Alumni Center, the memorial was dedicated on August 14, 2002, as part of a special two-day World War II reunion of NDAC veterans.
"The memorial has engraved stones for each of the branches of the military
- Army, Air Force, Marines and Coast Guard. A larger stone is engraved with
the message, 'This place is dedicated to those who have served and are currently
serving in the Armed Forces. Through their spirit, sacrifice and commitment,
they have preserved our rights of life and liberty. These granite stones serve
as a symbol of our appreciation for their efforts to maintain our freedom
and also as a reminder of the moral strength and awesome power that can flow
whenever a free people are united together for a common cause.'" (It's
Happening at State, August 21, 2002, p. 1)
