Lillie contested a piece of land close to her brother's claim. She won the case and proceeded to her new home. Here she is shown wearing her nurse's uniform surrounded by nieces and nephews. Income acquired from nursing and teaching paid for her legal expenses, materials for the shack, and seed for her fields. In 1919, she sold her land to her sister, Mabel.
