H. Elaine Lindgren is a sociologist at North Dakota State University, Fargo. A native of Wapello, Iowa, she earned a bachelor's degree from lowa State University at Ames and a Ph.D. from the University of Missouri-Columbia.

For more than 20 years, Lindgren has provided NDSU students with a challenging view of society based on her primary interest, the process of social change. Her publications include research articles in The Great Plains Quarterly and The Journal of Applied Behavioral Science.

Together with other colleagues, Lindgren helped establish a women's study program at NDSU in the early 1980s and has remained an active participant. Her interest in finding new perspectives from which to view the past and the present led to the research and publication of Land in Her Own Name.
