Lena Brennon Sisters Lena and Amelia homesteaded at the same time. Their shacks were made of sod. They alternated residency, staying part of the time in one shack and part of the time in the other. During the winter months when food was scarce, their staples included peanut butter, bread, and tea. Neither of them cared much for peanut butter after their homesteading days.
