Old Broadway
The Old Broadway was opened at 22 Broadway in November 1975. The original owners of the restaurant were Katherine Haug, Barbara Herbst, Jean Schnell and Phyllis Johnson, the wives of the owners of the Grainery Restaurant at West Acres Mall. The design of the original restaurant was a turn-of-the-century atmosphere, seating about 160 patrons, and employed about 80 people. In 1977, the Old Broadway expanded to include a disco and evening hours. This made it a popular destination for the 21 to 40 age set. In the August 1977 Howard Binford Guide general manager Pete Haug is quoted as saying that “We’ll definitely be the first disco operation of this type in the Fargo-Moorhead area”.
