Sacred Heart Academy
The Catholic religious congregation of the Union of Sisters of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, generally known as The Presentation Sisters, was founded in Ireland in 1775. The Presentation Sisters arrived in Fargo from Ireland on July 22, 1882, and opened a school four days later. Sacred Heart Academy opened on September 8, 1897 on north Broadway. A new brick building (now Queen of Peace Catholic Center which still stands on north Broadway) was formally opened on May 23 by Bishop James O'Reilly. The school trained teachers and secretaries, as well as offering classical and scientific studies. The eight elementary grades were also part of Sacred Heart's program.
In the images above, three buildings can seen: Sacred Heart Hall, Sacred Heart Academy, and another building. The Academy's Chapel and Refectory (seen below) were part of the an addition added in 1907.
The last graduating class of Sacred Heart Academy was in 1950.
