Anderson Carriage & Wagon Shop

Andrew S. Anderson came to Fargo about 1877. He is first listed as a Blacksmith and carriage maker in the 1884 Fargo city directory. The address was listed at 307 B Street (later address changed to 210 4th Street N.) The Fargo fire of June 7, 1893 destroyed the A. S. Anderson Carriage & Wagon shop. He reopened his shop at 124 4th Street N. and lived in a house next door. He continued at this site until about 1908. Andrew S. Anderson is listed as a blacksmith at the Agricultural College in the Fargo city directories from 1911 to 1916. He died in Fargo on June 1, 1920.

Photograph above is of the A. S. Anderson Carriage & Wagon shop located at 124 4th Street N. The photograph was likely taken about 1894 and shows a carriage for the Metropole Hotel, at extreme right is William Mills, Fargo Police Department Commissioner, after whom Mills Avenue was named. The Anderson home is visible in the background.
