Northern Pacific Railway Depot

The Northern Pacific (NP) railway bridge across the Red River was completed in June of 1872. Railroad tracks were laid due west to Bismarck. The NP passenger depot was built in 1898 based on a design by Cass Gilbert. The depot had two huge fireplaces and a restaurant. The real photo postcard above from 1911 looks northwest a the depot across Front Street. A train can be seen on the right on the other side of the depot. Below is a photograph from an NP Railroad advertising brochure and shows the waiting room and ticket windows inside the depot.
