Washington School
Washington School, the Second Ward school, was located at the corner of Fourth Street and First Avenue South at the edge of Island Park.
One source states that the school was built in 1898. Another source states that in 1896, the school provided four teachers for grades 1-4.
When the area served by Washington became important as a business section, its enrollment dwindled and the building was razed.
There is a Washington Elementary School today at 1725 North Broadway but it is a different building.
