Benjamin Franklin School

The original Ben Franklin school was built in 1926 and first occupied in February 1927. It was located on the southwest corner of 8th Street and 15th Avenue. It is pictured to the right.

A new Ben Franklin school (pictured in the postcard on the right) was built in 1952. It is located at 1420 North 8th Street (on the remainder of the city block on which the original Franklin school sat). When I attended (in the late 1950's), it was both an elementary and a Junior High School. I attended 6th through 8th grades here. In the winter, the city would flood the playground in back of the school and we would go ice skating there. The school is still in use.
