Gethsemane Cathedral

When the Episcopalians appointed Reverend William D. Walker as Bishop of North Dakota in 1883, Bishop Walker selected Fargo as his See City and Gethsemane Church became Gethsemane Cathedral.

The church was located on on the southeast corner of Second Avenue and Ninth Street South. The church had 175 communicants in 1893 with Rev. F.B. Nash, Jr., rector.

The building was to have been a masonry structure, but budget cuts allowed only a red sandstone foundation with a frame construction. The structure held the distinction of being the only wooden Episcopal cathedral in the United States until it accidentally burned in 1989.

A new church was built at 3600 25th Street South.
