Fargo Moorhead Levee

The image above is enlarged and cropped from an stereoview by F. J. Haynes taken prior to 1879, when he had a studio in Moorhead. In the foreground is a building that seems to have signs for several insurance companies, including the Hartford Life Insurance Company.

The photograph shows two steamboats docked on the right and one smaller steamboat on the left steaming along with smoke rising. The photographer is looking southeast and that the moving steamboat is going north. Looking carefully in the center, one can see the hull of two steamboats under construction just in front of the Grandin Line elevator on the Moorhead side of the river. In the background one can see several railroad cars that brought goods to the levee to be loaded and steamed north.
