Just Back from... Europe
"Just Back from... Europe." St. Cloud Times, 15 August 2010, 4C.
Part of the trip was a 10-day "Journey to the Homeland" tour sponsored by North Dakota State University for the descendants of immigrants to travel to Germany and the Ukraine to visit the villages of their ancestors.
They saw the farms they worked, the streets they
walked on, the homes built 150 years ago by Germans that are still in use today.
The chance to "understand why my ancestors came to North Dakota has been a wonderful experience," Arve writes.
"In addition to spending four days in the Ukraine, we spent some time in Alsace, France, Frankfort, and five days in Stuttgart touring, among other sights, the Mercedes
factory and attending a Germans from Russia Reunion. After Stuttgart we toured in Munich for two days visiting many attractions and naturally having dinner at the famous Hofbrauhaus. We finished our vacation with three days in Vienna, visiting the Schonbrunn Palace, St. Stephen's Cathedral, Mozart's home and many other sights. What a fabulous trip and experience."
