1 July 2011
NASHVILLE, TN—June 2011—The American Association for State and Local History (AASLH) proudly announces that the Germans from Russia Heritage Collection is the recipient of an Award of Merit from the AASLH Leadership in History Awards for exceptional work in preserving and sharing the culture of Germans from Russia on the Northern Plains. The AASLH Leadership in History Awards, now in its 66th year, is the most prestigious recognition for achievement in the preservation and interpretation of state and local history.
AASLH is also pleased to announce that, in addition to the Award of Merit, the Germans from Russia Heritage Collections, was also selected as a 2011 WOW Award winner by the Leadership in History awards committee.
The WOW Award, given at the discretion of the Committee, is an additional award for an Award of Merit winner whose nomination is highly inspirational, exhibits exceptional scholarship, and/or is exceedingly entrepreneurial in terms of funding, partnerships, or collaborations, creative problem solving, or unusual project design and inclusiveness. Only three WOW Awards will be presented in 2011. AASLH congratulates the Germans from Russia Heritage Collection for the work that has brought this honor.
This year, AASLH is proud to confer fifty-nine national awards honoring people, projects, exhibits, books, and organizations. The winners represent the best in the field and provide leadership for the future of state and local history. Presentation of the awards will be made at a special banquet during the 2011 AASLH Annual Meeting in Richmond, Virginia, on Friday, September 16, 2011. The banquet is supported by a generous contribution from the History Channel.
The AASLH awards program was initiated in 1945 to establish and encourage standards of excellence in the collection, preservation, and interpretation of state and local history throughout the United States. The AASLH Leadership in History Awards not only honor significant achievement in the field of state and local history, but also brings public recognition of the opportunities for small and large organizations, institutions, and programs to make contributions in this arena.
