Treasured Family Favorites
Recipes collected by Virginia (Hieb) Wanzek

"This Cookbook was dedicated to my mother, Paulina (Dietrich) Hieb and my husband's mother, Agnes (Kerber) Wanzek. It is a family cookbook with recipes submitted by family members. It provided the opportunity for me to record and preserve "old" recipes handed down to us by our mothers and grandmothers. Often the early cooks gave us only a list of ingredients with no amounts or directions. Those recipes have been adapted to the kitchens of today by daughters and granddaughters. I spent many happy hours compiling this book and hope that it will be passed on to future generations to enjoy as much as I have enjoyed it."
Family names included in this book are: Alexander, Baenen, Bauer, Berg, Brodehl, Bucholz, Carlson, Charipar, Cypewski, De Ville, Doherty, Eckman, Farley, Flynn, Gresser, Gutensohn, Hieb, Kerber, Kurtz, Maddock, Meath, Morrison, Mulfinger, Newton, O'Loughlin, Reiser, Sayler, Schaefer, Schimke, Schneider, Schwab, Soggie, Solinger, Stang, Wanzek, Weckman, Weisz and Zimbelman.
There are nine sections: Vorspeise und Getranke--Suppen, Salate und Soszen--Brot, Brotchen und Butterbrote--Fleisch, Geflugel, Kasserollen und Fisch--Gemuse--Kuchen, Nachtische und Pasteten--Keks, Platzchen und Kandis--Konserven, Marmelade und Gelee--Gemischtes.

My mother was a wonderful cook and I have many fond memories of the aroma of fresh baked bread, steaming pots of soup on the stove, big, thick cookies in the cookie jar and her invitation to "Stay, and eat with us!"
