The black shawl belong to Iris (Dockter) Swedlund's grandmother, Katherina Feickert (born April 9, 1886, Neudorf, Glückstal District, South Russia (today in Moldova and near Odessa, Ukraine; died October 25, 1966, Mandan, ND), wife of Aloph Dockter, rural Tuttle, ND. Katherina at age three in 1889 immigrated from the village of Neudorf to the United States first coming to Eureka, SD, and then to rural Tuttle, ND. Harold and Katherina (Feickert) Dockter has 10 children and nine were born in a sodhouse. The shawl was brought to America by Katherin Dockter's mother in 1889, the year North Dakota became a state.
