dc.descriptionAlfalfa hay is used extensively as an animal feed and is considered one of the most valuable forms of roughage grown in the United States. Though very popular with farmers, very little was known regarding the nutritional qualities of alfalfa proteins. Standard varieties of alfalfa are deficient in sulfur-containing amino acids which prompted the writer's attention to the role of sulfur in the chemical composition of alfalfa. Sulfur occur in plants as inorganic sulfates and in organic combinations. It is important for nutrition and metabolism in livestock. The article goes to to present more detailed information regarding this and a study to completely identify the organic sulfur fraction of feeding stuffs.
